Collection: Japanese Ninjato
The Ninjato, also known as the Shinobigatana, is a one-of-a-kind Japanese sword featuring a straight blade approximately 20 inches long. The ninjas (shinobi) utilized this weapon for mobility and close-quarter combat. Ninjas sought an alternative to the traditional Katana as the weapon was too cumbersome for stealthy and discreet spies. Hence, the Ninjato was born.
Unlike the Katana, the Ninjato underwent a different evolution in terms of shape, manufacture, and the reverence ninjas had for it. Samurais held their Katanas in high regard, but for ninjas, the Ninjato was just a tool, not a sacred weapon.
The Ninjato is easily recognizable by its straight blade with a very geometric tip and often a square guard (Tsuba), though it's also possible for the sword to lack one entirely. The scabbard (Saya) is pointed so it can be driven into the ground if necessary. Additionally, the handle (Tsuka) is longer, providing better balance during swift movements and also serving as a hiding spot for items like needles or other ninja tools.
